This is a fundraising edition for the American Civil Liberties Untion (ACLU) - 50% of the sale of each print will be donated to this critically important organization.

The idea for Eye Chart emerged after the results of the 2016 U.S. presidential election and its immediate aftermath, as well as an ongoing contemplation of the qualities shared by some of the most abominable leaders of recent history—Bashar al-Assad, Omar al-Bashir, Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Benito Mussolini, Vladimir Putin, Joseph Stalin, Donald Trump, and Mao Zedong.  My intention was that through the creation of this print something positive could emerge from their visages which could then benefit one of our most important nonprofit organizations, the ACLU.  Graphically the work was inspired by 19th century anatomical illustrations, Venetian carnival masks, and the iconic cover designs for George Orwell's classic book 1984. Based on a painting, this four-color lithograph was produced in close collaboration with Maurice Sanchez and his acclaimed lithography shop D.L.E. who worked with me to translate the original image into its final form.

For nearly 100 years, the ACLU has been our nation's guardian of liberty, working in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and the laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country. With more than 3 million members, activists, and supporters, the ACLU is a nationwide organization that fights tirelessly in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., to safeguard everyone's rights.
